A member of the diocesan staff since 2010, Canon Garnes was also recently honored during the national General Convention of The Episcopal Church with the Distinguished Leadership Award from the Office of Young Adult/Campus Ministry. Canon Garnes now will be Canon for Youth and Young Adult Ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. Bishop Larry Provenzano said, "This new position is meant to give attention to the important role of youth ministry in the life of the diocese and signal the direct connection of this ministry to the diocesan bishop." The installation liturgy featured musical celebrations by youthful talent from across the diocese. Upon Canon Garnes arrival at the cathedral for the opening procession, the congregation greeted her with enthusiastic smiles and sustained applause. |
